Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup black cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk (lukewarm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm 1 cup of milk to about 110°F. Stir in 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of black cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture and melted butter to the dry ingredients; mix until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle (¼ inch thick). Spread softened butter over it and sprinkle with sugar mixed with cinnamon.
  7. Roll tightly into a log, slice into equal pieces (about 12), and place cut-side up in a greased baking dish. Let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, beat together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Drizzle frosting over warm rolls and serve.
