  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • Additional chocolate for layering (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix in milk until smooth. Fold in the dry mixture gently.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For ganache: heat heavy cream until boiling, then pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  9. Frost cooled cake layers with ganache.
